Art and sound in the MUAC collections proposes a reading of the artistic, documentary and associated collections where the audible is the element that articulates it. The exhibition is structured from a multiplicity of views and supports that invite us to rethink the borders of art and its purpose is to argue the importance of sound in contemporary artistic practices, focusing on the Mexican scene.
The exhibition brings together the work of 32 sound artists through the selection of more than 60 pieces that show the growing interest in sound as a central element that contributes to the reflection of contemporary art from the sixties of the last century. However, it is not a historical review, but a selection of work structured in five thematic nuclei that allow us to see and listen to works where acoustics are an integral part of his artistic proposal. The sound perceived in the exhibition room emanates from sculptures, monitors, projections and documentary records that reveal various approaches to sound and its absence.
